The Journey Continues ...

a person who organizes and operates a small business or businesses, taking on the risks and rewards of a business venture, idea, goods or services. The entrepreneur is commonly seen as a business leader and innovator of new ideas and business processes.
The next opportunity to work as an independent came shortly after my first daughter was born. I became a Mary Kay Consultant. I gained such valuable lessons and experience. I also learned a lot about business and about myself.
I learned that:
(1) You must believe in what you are selling or promoting. If you don’t believe in it, then why should someone else? Know your product, goods or services like the back of your hand.
(2) You must believe in yourself. You can achieve any realistic goal you set your mind to achieve.
(3) You should always put your best foot forward. Your first impression may be your last impression. How you look, speak and present yourself speaks volumes! and can make the difference as to whether you gain a customer/client or a critic.
(4) You have to care about your customers/clients. Be willing to listen to what matters to them and seek to meet that need. If you cannot, be honest and willing to make referrals.
(5) Being your own boss is hard work! But is also rewarding!

My journey into entrepreneurship began during a financial crisis. I had just found out my husband and I would be having our first child, we recently settled on our first new home, and I was fired from my job! All of this happened in the same week! Not sure what to do, I went to strong mothers and leaders of my church for prayer and guidance. I was led to volunteer for a well-known non-profit organization that fought for the civil rights of all Americans, and especially those who had been under-represented.
